身体与景观之间的“念”病

 “镇念山”（gnyan gyi ri bo snyil ba）是藏医典籍如《四部医典》（Rgyud bzhi）与《甘露宝瓶》（’Chi med bdud rtsi bum pa）中记载的一种针对瘟疫的外科手术与仪式疗法。本次讲座将追溯该疗法与“疬病”（gnyan nad）相关联的传承脉络。“念”（nyen）是栖居于西藏山地景观中不可见的潜在致病存在，“镇念山”即指通过外科手术穿刺瘟疫患者身体景观中隆起的山丘状淋巴结肿块。关于该疗法的一种解释认为，大规模疫病是“念”对人类从其栖息地攫取资源实施的惩罚。为此，仪轨文献规定人类需与“念”沟通并进行补偿，将“念”想象为具有需求与愿望的拟人化神灵。然而另一种解释则主张，“念”实为入侵人体的非人格化寄生虫，致使毒性山丘从受害者体内爆发。与其将这些实践简单归类为萨满仪式与医学等表面相异的范畴，“镇念山”疗法实为一种融合外科与仪式双重效能的治疗实践，既能与致病景观产生共鸣，又可对其进行驱除。

Nyen Disease Between Body and Landscape 

“Leveling the nyen mountain” (gnyan gyi ri bo snyil ba) is a surgical and ritual treatment for plague found throughout the therapeutic instructions of Tibetan scriptures like the Four Tantras (Rgyud bzhi) and the Vase of Ambrosia (’Chi med bdud rtsi bum pa). This lecture will trace a genealogy of this practice in association with “nyen disease” (gnyan nad). The nyen are unseen and potentially pathogenic beings who inhabit the mountainous landscape of Tibet, and “leveling the nyen mountain” refers to the surgical lancing of a mountainous buboes in the bodily landscapes of plague patients. According to one explanation of this practice, widespread disease is a punishment sent by the nyen following the human extraction of resources from the habitat of the nyen. As a result of these transgressions, ritual texts specify that humans should communicate with the nyen and offer reparations, imagining the nyen as personalized deities who have wants and needs. According to another explanation, however, the nyen are depersonalized worms that invade the body of human victims, causing virulent mountains to erupt from their bodily landscapes. Rather than divide these practices into superficially distinct categories like shamanism and medicine, “leveling the nyen mountain” is a surgical ritual that integrates a capacity for both resonance with and the exorcizing of a pathogenic landscape.

麦伟哲（William A. McGrath），纽约大学何鸿毅家族基金佛学研究助理教授。美国弗吉尼亚大学宗教研究专业哲学博士，博士论文题目为《藏地的佛教与医学：起源、伦理以及传统》，主要研究领域为东亚与中亚的佛教、藏汉医学传统、藏语言文学和历史，以及宗教与医学的综合交叉研究。同巴尔巴·格尔珂（Barbara Gerke）与简·万德瓦科（Jan van der Valk）共同主持维也纳大学的科研项目课题《藏地与喜马拉雅地区的流行病叙事：预言、蔓延，以及预防——从黑死病到新型冠状病毒》（2023-2025年）。
